Ronald K. Brown and Evidence, A Dance Company, Announce its Annual New York Season at The Joyce Theater Feb. 10-15, 2009

Featuring the New York Premiere of Two-Year Old Gentlemen

New York, NY, December 19, 2008— Dance legend and celebrated choreographer

Ronald K. Brown and the award-winning Evidence, A Dance Company will hold its annual New York season at The Joyce Theater from February 10-15, 2009. Praised as “one of the most profound choreographers of his generation” by The New York Times, Brown’s choreography blends African, modern, ballet, and contemporary dance styles to tell the stories of the African Diaspora. The engagement includes two different programs. Program A includes the New York premiere of Two-Year Old Gentlemen, and two works from the company’s repertory, Incidents, and the popular Grace. Program B features Ebony Magazine: to a village, the critically-acclaimed Walking out the Dark, and Exotica, an early work from 1995. Tickets start at $19. A special family matinee will take place on Feb. 14 at 2pm. Kids’ tickets for the family matinee are only $10. Children, ages 6-14, must be accompanied by an adult (maximum four kids to one grownup).

Ronald K. Brown’s choreography is in high demand. His work can be seen in the repertories of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (Grace (1999); Serving Nia (2001); Ife/My Heart (2005), Ailey 2, Cirque Folkloric Dance Theatre, Jennifer Muller/The Works, Jeune Ballet d’Afrique Noire, Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, and Philadanco. The Washington Post says of his work, “Brown’s choreography has zoomed to the forefront of modern dance by virtue of its exquisitely sculpted movement, and a compelling sense that the dancing springs from a deep well of spiritual urgency.”
